While you wait for your promise
So Father gives you a dream or a vision. Just how do you wait for your promise? How do you stay focused on your journey? How do you know you haven’t missed it? Read on to learn about our journey so far!
Tra and I started out on our journey of faith five years ago (2013). I remember sitting down in the lounge of our old house at Christmas time feeling very frustrated and unsatisfied with life. We had been through some tough stuff in 2013, but despite the difficulties we knew Father had more for us. So at this point of looking back over the year we finally just laid all our desires and dreams down before Father God. We started by writing down our passions, what we loved doing, what frustrated us and what we would love to do if money wasn’t an issue. Wildback was born Christmas 2013 and it’s been a crazy ride ever since.
So, for all you dreamers out there just on the edge of stepping out and pursuing your own dreams, I thought I would let you know what we have done so far as you might find it helpful to know before you step out on your own journey.
Stepping out in faith and trusting Father God is just like the Indiana Jones scene when he needs to take a step of faith in the film “Holy Grail”. We find Indiana Jones facing what looks like an impossible task of being asked to walk across a great expanse with nothing below him but a very large drop. I won’t spoil what happens next with Indiana Jones, but stepping out in faith is very similar.
Tra and I prayed about the vision of Wildback we believed Father God had given us. We fasted and spent lots of time listening to make sure we had heard correctly. It came to a point when we just decided we were just going to believe. We knew we would look stupid to those who knew us, but we didn’t care. We just wanted to be in the centre of Father God’s plan and didn’t care what anyone else thought. Even if we were wrong and totally missed it hearing from Father God we thought, “Well, let’s just see if we are right and just step out in faith anyway”. Father God is big enough to course correct us if needed. We just knew deep down what Father God wanted us to do. We strongly believed we had discovered what Father God wanted us to do next.
Now, to be honest, we were excited but also totally aware that there was no way on earth that we would be able to pull off Wildback on our own. We knew for Wildback to happen it would take a miracle or two! So, we committed to pray into Wildback and gave lots of time to simply listening.
Around the time we agreed we were going to step out in faith, people started to give us random words like “I don’t know if this means anything to you, but I had a picture of you both on a farm running a ministry”. These happened several times a month consistently throughout 2014. This was so encouraging and I believe was Father God’s way of saying to us both that we were on the right track. So we started to assume that things were going to happen straight away! (But little did we know Father had to take us on a journey to get us ready for Wildback.)
At the start of 2015 we travelled up to Scotland to Glasgow Prophetic Centre to receive a couples prophetic checkup. This proved to be one of the best things we would do on our journey and I totally recommend anyone thinking of stepping out in faith to do the same. We had a 20 minute slot with two lovely ladies who were gifted at prophesying. Without saying too much, we left slightly overwhelmed but encouraged that we were heading in the right direction and were right to step out in faith and go on this crazy journey. We actually listened to that prophecy every week as we found it kept our faith high and our focus forward.
We thought it might take a year for us to start fulfilling the vision of Wildback. As we were all in, we stepped out in faith and closed our business, sold our house and came off the property ladder. We moved into a single room at Tra’s mums, with all our belongings in storage. Then we waited for everything to quickly fall into place. We strongly believed things would happen any moment. One of the many things we have learnt the hard way is that Father God’s “any moment” is very different to our “any moment”!
Even with little movement with Wildback, we didn’t let this discourage us. We went on hot pursuit of Father God, reading books and watching teaching and just going after everything that would prepare us for what we believe Father God was leading us into.
Being absolutely honest, it’s been a tough journey! Although we get on really well with Tra’s mum, at times we need our own space. But this is the unique journey we are on. We just had to do what we knew to do and create space for Father God to move.
While we wait for the next instructions we do what we have been told to do and try not to get frustrated in the waiting. I’m not saying we don’t get frustrated, some times we do, some times we get very frustrated. We both want to get on and pursue our calling and see Wildback up and running. One time I actually said to Father God, “Why can’t we just get on, can’t you see we are waiting?” But what I forget is Father God wants us to fulfil our call more than we do. Oops, I quickly said sorry and asked that Father God help me be more patient.
Fast forward to 2018, and I can honestly say, we know so much more now about what Father God wants us to do through Wildback than what we knew back in 2013. If we had started Wildback in 2015 like we thought, we would have made so many mistakes. I am so thankful that Father God has been leading us and allowing us time to learn and get better prepared.
If you could take one thing from our journey so far, just keep doing what Father God tells you to do until He tells you to do something different. For me this looks like learning the piano again and starting to produce music. For Tra it looks like her learning to screen screen and be creative, even in the midst of not having much space we are making this work.
So it’s March 2018, we are still pursuing our call, still praying and still believing, still living with Tra’s mum, we are still holding on to hope and we just keep dreaming. We have up days and down days, but mostly up days! We remind ourselves that Father God is faithful and if we seek him and allow Him to direct us, we will get to our destination. We know that Father God is in this. Wow, it’s going to be amazing when it all happens, but we are also going to have an amazing testimony of our journey of getting to Wildback too!
